2012 Election Post-Mortem

Another election, and plenty of opportunities lost.  First, with the Presidential race I got 44 out of 50 states right, which is my worst call yet.  But, I was far from alone on that one and people far smarter and more prominent than I got it even worse.  At the time of this writing, Florida still hasn’t been officially called, but I assume Obama will get it and a final tally of 332-206, although the popular vote was much closer than that Electoral College number looks. Longmont’s Liberal/Progressive Thugocracy

The following was sent to the Times-Call for publication, they refused to run it for reasons unknown at the time of this posting. I ran the subject matter by a few random people, all were outraged and asked why they hadn’t heard about it. I wasn’t going to write about it as it’s old news to me, but apparently unknown by most. I assume the Times-Call isn’t running it because of the subject matter, but they’ve been running some pretty screwy Open Forum letters lately, so that can’t totally be it. I also assume this is something plenty of people in Longmont, while disturbed by it, would find interesting – dare I say newsworthy. Continue reading…

LP026: Longmont’s Liberal/Progressive Thugocracy, and big money flowing into local politics

On Episode 26 of Longmont Politics, Chris talked about his upcoming Times Call guest opinion “Longmont’s Liberal/Progressive Thugocracy“, but expanded on it to about quadruple it’s printed size.  Then it was on to the massive amounts of money being spent to defeat Ballot Question 300, the fracking ban, along with a confusing letter by a former city councilmember.  And finally a comment on the visit of the Pro-Abortion Brigade to Longmont, ballots coming in, and a reminder to vote and how to check of the County Clerk received your ballot.

LP025: Presidential debate, Longmont Candidate forum and an OHOFOL sounding ROAR

On Episode 25 of Longmont Politics, Chris gave his impressions of the U.S. Presidential Debate, as well as the Longmont Debate & Forum.  The main event was the debate between Congressional District 4 candidates Cory Gardner and Brandon Shaffer.  Their debate brought up the issue of NISP (Northern Integrated Supply Project), and how Mr. Shaffer would not answer the question of if he supported it.

Next was Longmont Ballot Question 300, which is to ban fracking.  A new group called Main Street Longmont has put out mailers and a TV ad, as well as their website NoOn300.com.  On the other side, Our Health Our Future Our Longmont (OHOFOL – pronounced AWFUL) has a goal of raising $45,000 and has so far raised less than $600.  But at least they have some great prizes for your non-tax deductible contribution.

Chris also made some off-the-cuff remarks about rumors of people thinking of running for mayor of Longmont in response to Dennis Coombs lackluster job, and sets the record straight on VoteLongmont!

LP023: Anti-fracking ballot issue and lawsuits

On Episode 23 of Longmont Politics, Chris responded to a response to his “Brandon Shaffer’s Akin Moment” Times-Call guest opinion article, where the original Denver Post writer backs up exactly what Chris said.  Then it was on to Longmont City Councilmembers speaking out AGAINST the fracking ban that will be on the ballot, City of Longmont Ballot Question 300, or as it should be called “The Longmont Lawsuit Invitation Act“.  Erie took a different course, instead deciding on an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) instead of regulations stricter than the state – or worse, a voter induced fracking ban.

Finally, I highlighted some wise words by Percy Conarroe and Paul Danish in reference to fracking and lawsuits.

Brandon Shaffer’s Todd Akin Moment

(The following appeared in the August 29, 2012 Longmont Times-Call)

Contrary to his blind loyalists repeated fawning, I’d like to paint you a quite different picture of State Senator and U.S. Congressional candidate Brandon Shaffer. I’ll get to his horrid voting record over the last 8 years later, but there’s even something more despicable he’s engaged in that you probably aren’t even aware of.   Continue reading…

LP022: Brandon Shaffer’s rape rant and Hickenlooper targets Longmont

On Episode 22 of Longmont Politics we reminded listeners of the several missteps, mistakes, and voting record of State Senator Brandon Shaffer, especially when he had his own Todd Akin moment when he compared his plight to a rape victim (“it’s a little bit like blaming the woman or saying to a woman she deserved it“).

Then it was on to an impromptu rant about Hispanic/Latino voters and why they should never vote for or accept the patronizing attitude and pandering of Democrats/Liberal/Progressives.  Finally, we talked about Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper supporting the COGCC and their lawsuit against Longmont’s new oil regulations.

Brandon Shaffer’s Electoral College deception

The following was pulled from the old Wrongmont site and appears to be written around 2007.  Unfortunately, most if not all of the hyperlinks are broken as those sites either don’t exist anymore, or the articles were just removed.  But the information is still relevant and helps give full context and perspective on one of the more disturbing activities of State Senator Brandon Shaffer (Dem-Longmont).  Now he wants to be the U.S. Congressman for Longmont. LP011:Bumper stickers, Mayor playing procedural games, and CD4 update

On Episode 11 of Longmont Politics, we discussed the bumper sticker mailed out to anti-airport neighbors by Mile Hi Skydiving, along with comments during the Airport Advisory Board meeting.  The Times-Call ran my letter about Mayor Coombs and a game he played at the recent council meeting.  We updated the money race for U.S. Congressional District 4 and how candidate Brandon Shaffer possibly killed an election night reporting bill.

LP006:Fracking making citizens angry, and State Senator morphs into a flying toaster

On this weeks Longmont Politics, we started with fracking and how some people were unhappy with the 7-0 vote by city council to NOT extend the moratorium.  Recently retired City Manager Gordon Pedrow has become more vocal since retiring and citizens are letting everyone know how they feel about him.  Times-Call letters in response to other letters.  And finally, the bizarre YouTube sensation that claims Colorado State Senator Brandon Shaffer is a flying toaster and recently took on Godzilla in a fight to the death.
